Summer is here and in its wake a lot new dramas! And there is something for everyone. From romance to comedy, including sageuk. Just pick what you want or what you need!
The Good Wife
I’ve
never watched any episode of The Good
Wife so I clearly have no idea what this Korean remake will look like. All
I know is that the posters and promotional material are gorgeous, that Jeon Do-yeon looks particularly fierce
and I find it awesome! I want more of those strong and determinate
heroines.
Jeon
Do-yeon’ll portray Kim Hye-kyung, an attorney who’s back at work after a 13
year hiatus. Her husband, Lee Tae-joon (Yoo
Ji-tae) a promising prosecutor will find himself involved in a public
scandal and will end up in prison for corruption. Talk about a disgrace. Kim
Hye-kyung the housewife has no other choice than returning to her former career
to support her family. Yes! There’s nothing more dangerous than a mother
fighting for her family.
Jeon
Do-yeon is back on television after eleven years! Her last drama was Lovers in Prague back in 2005. She made
a cameo in On Air in 2008 but that
doesn’t really count. She kept herself busy with movies all these years
including Secret Sunshine, movie for
which she won a price in Cannes’ festival.
I
have zero fear concerning the acting. I mean we have a pretty good cast and
solids actors as leads. Now I want to see a tense and well written drama!
Premiere’s date: July 08 (tvN)
Let's Fight Ghost
Few
days away from its premiere and I’m still not convinced Taecyeon was the best choice for the male lead. I have nothing
against the man but can this strong and well-built guy can really look like a 18 years old
teen? In the first stills and teasers I have to admit, the stylists and make-up
artists managed to make him look younger but I won’t go too far saying he looks
exactly 10 younger than what he really is. On the good side, there’s seems to
be a a good alchemy between him and Kim So Hyun.
In this webtoon adaptation, Kim So Hyun plays Kim Hyun-Ji, a ghost who died at 19 in a car accident.
During her life, Hyun-Ji was
only focused on studies, but now that she’s dead, she’s starting getting interested
in things she never considered. One day, she’ll meet, Pak Bong-pal (Taecyeon). He’s
a student who makes extra money by chasing ghosts for people. Enemies at first,
the exorcist and the ghost will end up working together and of course romantic
feelings will arise.
Let’s Fight
Ghost is surfing on a vague we’ve seen often lately with
dramas like The Master’s Sun or Oh My Ghotesse. I’ve loved both dramas
so I don’t mind having more ghosts, as long as you drama, are coherent and come
with an satisfying end (which is not always a sinecure.)
Honestly I have no high hopes, but I still wish for
the drama to be fun and witty.
Premiere’s date: July 11 (tvN)
W-Two Worlds
The
writer Song jae-jung, did one of the
cutest drama I’ve ever seen, Queen
In-Hyun’s Man. She also wrote the solid
Nine: Nine Time Traveler. Travelling in time is nothing new to her. If some
thought the end of both dramas was botched or far-fetched, I found them
credible which is the least to ash when you make your hero travels in time.
W-Two Worlds will depicts the romance
between a fictional character, Kang Chul (Lee
Jong-suk) and Oh Yeon-joo (Han
Hyo-joo), a surgeon in the real world. Kang Chul is the hero of a webtoon
cartooned by Yeon-joo’s father. The latter will quickly discover she has the
ability to travel back and forth between the fantasy and real world. When he dad
will go missing, Yeon-joo who’s persuade he not only disappeared in the real
world but also in the fictional one, will enquire the help of Kang Chul to find
him. But things won’t exactly go as scheduled.
I’m
definitely behind this story! W-Two
Worlds has the potential to do the buzz and to be a big hit. I trust the
writer and have seriously high expectations here!
It’s
Han Hyo-joo’s first drama in 6 years (Dong-Yi
was in 2010) I missed her. She did movies in the meantime, but a drama
is always different. In light of the first stills, I think she’ll catch up all
these years we haven’t seen her. Isn’t the 20th already?
Premiere’s date: July 20 (MBC)
Moonlight Drawn By Clouds
Can
two young actors be cuter? I want them now!
Park Bo-gum’s so adorable, you just
want to hold him. I wanted to do so in Reply
1988 and I still want to do it badly seeing him in these stills. I’m happy
to see him shining in his first leading role. Well technically he was the
leading male in Reply 1988 but the
debate is way too long for me to start it. Kim
Young-jung started so young I feel like I’ve known her all my life. She
grown up so fast it’s hard to be believe she’s only 16! She’s talented and
despite her age that’s all the matter!
In
Moonlight Drawn By Clouds, Kim
Young-jung plays Hong Ra-on, a young girl who’ll disguise herself as man in
order to counsel men on dating. Because of a letter she’ll write for a client,
Ra-on will meet the Crown Prince Hyom-yeong (Park Bo-gum). The young Crown
Prince is unaware or Ra-on’s true identity and she is of his royal identity.
One thing leading to another, our prince will find fall for the disguised
Ra-on.
Aaaarrggh.
I want them now! Seriously! The drama has an nice premise, an appealing cast
and pretty costumes, what more to ask? We have the promise of laughs, tears,
tension and mostly romance. Don’t you dare be a mess drama. Don’t you dare!
Premiere’s date: August 15 (KBS)
Incarnation Of Jealousy
You
have two adorkable actors I love, Jo
Jung-suk and Gong Hyo-jin
together in a rom-com? Of course I’m anticipating. Give me a sunny weather and
a mojito and it will be just perfect! I’m quite excited to have those two in a
drama I absolutely have faith them and hope to see a drama with a fun story.
Incarnation Of Jealousy is a light rom-com that
will portray the fierce competition and love between Lee Hwan-shin (Jo
Jung-suk) and Pyo Na-ri (Gong Hyo-jin). He’s a successful and strong-willed
anchor who has no doubts on his skills. She’s a mere weather woman, who’s been
working for 10 years without make it big. She’s till dreaming of the day things
will turn her way.
Rom-coms
is a field Gong Hyo-jin knows and I trust her in that. She always manages to
have chemistry with the leading male in front of her. Jo Jung-suk has a certain
sensibility even when he plays the cold and heartless guy (Hello Oh My Ghostess). I fell in love with him
in What’s Up and my love never
stopped since. I just don’t want Incarnation
Of Jealousy to be Oh My Venus
bis: a cute drama with only one good thing: a solid chemistry between the
leads. Don’t waste this couple please, drama. Incarnation Of Jealousy should be a fun and nice ride if all the
elements are put in place correctly. Fingers crossed peoples.
Premiere’s date: August 17 (SBS)
Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo
Lee.Jun.Ki.In.A.Sageuk. That says pretty much
everything. I’m not completely objective while writing these lines because I
find the guy so hot in a Hanbok I
could pay to see him dress like that every day! I can visualize a modern
rom-com with the girl on high heels and skirt and him in Hanbok. Definitely.
But we’re still not there. No modern rom-com in Scarlet Heart but we do we travelling in
time which is exciting enough.
During
a total eclipse in nowadays, Hae-soo (IU)
is transported to the Goryeo era. Our 21 century heroin will meet the prince
Wang So (Lee Jun Ki). Gorgeous, he makes everyone tremble with fear. He’s not
the only prince that will cross our heroin’s path. The palace is full of them (Kang Ha-neul, Hong Jong-hyun, Byun
Baekhyun, Nam Joo-hyuk, Ji Soo). Natural rivalry, treasons and political skulduggery
will ensue and complicated things a little bit (such an euphemism).
Scarlet Heart Ryeo has enough interesting
elements to be an intense and powerful sageuk. I hope it will deliver for the
sake of the these cutie princes (told you already, there’s zero objectivity
here).
Premiere’s
date: August 29 (SBS)
