What’s in the water lately? What’s wrong with
the decision-makers and those in charge of castings? Has it become like an
impossible mission to cast and secure leads for dramas? Someone might feel the
urge to call back Tom Cruise to take
care of this mission! I swear casting news are really like rollercoasters
recently! It’s the first time I’ve seen so many people ‘being courted’, ‘considering’, ‘favourably
considering’ then going back to simply ‘considering’
to finally ‘decline’ offers! For someone
like me, who just got excited by any tiny castings’ news, it’s slowly becoming a
bit (a lot) tiring.
Talking about this crazy (crazy, crazy) new trend
of playing with our nerves, makes me think of Blood. It took the drama ages to cast his male leads. From Jung Il-woo (Records of a Night Watcman) to Yoo
Yeon-seok (Answer Me 1994), the drama finally
secured Ahn Jae-hyun (You’re All Surrounded) few weeks before
filming. Consequences? My excitement got cut in half. Nothing wrong with Ahn
Jae-hyun, except maybe that the guy debuted last year and hasn’t enough dramas
under his belt to take the lead in anything. I do like him but in supporting
roles.
Before Blood, Kill Me, Heal Me had his ballet of
confirmations and refutations. Lee
Sung-gi (You’re All
Surrounded) was in ‘talk to headline’
at some point. But considering that it would have been too easy to just
confirm, he eventually dropped the drama as well as the rookie actress, Lim Ji-yeon (Obsessed), who was sensed to be his female lead. It didn’t matter
so much since Kill Me, Heal Me,
managed to secure the solids Ji Sung and
Hwang Jung-eum (both played in Secret) right before filming. Some
people like to live dangerously! Enough with starters, main
dishes are about to be served!
Who
Are You-School 2015 scared me. The drama
secured his leads after a round of refusals and hesitations. Lee Yu-bi (Pinocchio) and then Kang
Min-hyuk (The Heirs) were both
offered the leads for this new series of the School’s franchise. No matter how ecstatic I was, they
both declined. Great. Kim So-hyun (Sensory Couple) confirmed her participation
few time after and things got a little bit confusing after that: Nam Joo-hyuk (Surpluss Princess) or Yook
Sung-jae (Plus Nine Boys)? Lead
or second lead? Are you guys trying to lead us all to our tombs or something?
Anyway the drama has started filming and premiere later this month. You did it drama,
you finally did it!
The next one on the list is Chaebol’s Daughter. Park
Seo-joon (Kill Me, Heal Me)? Really?
Hands up, that cutie could finally be the lead in a drama. There were rumors
about Han Groo (Marriage Not Dating) being attached to the project but those rumors
didn’t last long as the official offer went to Moon Geun-young (Jung-Yi Goddess
Of Fire). Wise choice but I was already sold by the possible reunion of Park
Seo-joon and Han Groo. Somehow Moon Geun-young and Park Seo-joo must have heard
me (telepathy who knows?). They both said no to the drama the same day. I suppose
they woke up that day with many things to do and decline their respective
offers was among them. It’s saddening me as I really want Park Seo-joon to be
the lead in something asap. Too bad but not hopeless. It’s not the end of the
year yet and 2015 is full of (good?) surprises anyway. Chaebol’s Daughter is scheduled for the end of June and is still
looking for its leads. Surely good luck with that guys.
Last but definitely not least, the dessert, the cherry
on the cake (drum rolls). Drool, people ‘cause you’ve never seen anything like that! Hell
no! Scholar Who Walks The Night has
just blew away all his rivals! Let’s start with the only thing that’s for sure
about this drama: Lee Jun-ki (Joseon in Guman) signed on to play the
vampire hero in this webtoon’s adaptation of the same name. Yes! Now get
yourself prepared because it’s going to be really confusing or really funny. It
all depends on how seriously you take all that. The crossdressing female lead
was firstly offered to Han Groo
(again!! It tears me apart that no one is seriously thinking of giving her the
lead in any upcoming drama!) Her, turning down the role is surrounded by many suspicious
elements and declarations (google it if you interested). I’m not going to enter
that field. Everyone is free to think what they want.
The drama was looking for another female lead
when a new name surfaced: Jin Se-yeon
(Doctor Stranger) All right, this is
an official warning: I’m not rational anymore when it comes to Jin Se-yeon. It’s
just that I can’t stand her. I just can’t! It’s epidermal or just an emotional
reaction to her irritant character in my dear and cherished Gaksital. Not sure yet I’m working on
it. I was distressed when I read that she was courted to play along with Lee
Jun-ki. Not only I wasn’t sure about the pairing but does she even has what it
take to play with Lee Jun-ki? I freaked out at that news more than when Changmin (Mimi) got confirmed to play the Crown Prince. Talk about another
crazy idea. Again I have nothing against the guy but Lee Jun-ki need solid and
strong actors and neither Ji Se-yeon nor Changmin are exactly heavyweights in
the industry. Jin Se-yeon eventually declined the role (she also must have
heard my complaints somehow, by telepathy).
Now, not only one but two names have surfaced: Kim So-eun (Liar Game) and Lee Yubi
(Pinocchio). It seems that both are considering.
Fine, but for which roles? Lead or second lead? Or could it be that they are
both courted for the same role? One is apparently close to confirm, the other one
hasn’t say anything yet. Again for which role? Are you even sure of what you’re
doing drama? Kim So-eun is on one side and Lee Yubi on the other. And guess
who’s in the middle, completely lost without any clue? Us of course! I’m now
certain that MBC wants to kill us
all before the drama’s premiere. I love both of them so please just choose and
make things clear once for all. If you ask me if I want to play with Lee
Jun-ki, I won’t play hard to get. I’ll sign with my feet if that can prove my
determination. But then how come it takes you ages to find someone MBC? Or
maybe there’s something they are not telling us. Mystery.
The
thing is I want my mental stability back. So hurry up do something
about it channels! Choose well and wisely and make us…never mind just secure people,
whoever they are.
