Here’s
some of the upcoming dramas scheduled for this spring. I’ve listed those I’m quite
interested in as I don’t have time to cover everything. (If someone has a magic
method to transform 24hours into 48, send me an email!)
Sensory Couple
Well, well, well. I do have something to say about
Sensory Couple but I don’t know what
to say first. Does Shin Se-kyung has
what it takes to meet my expectations? That probably isn’t the best thing to
start with but that’s what came first (yeah the eternal fight between the mind
and the body. Visibly my mind won this time.) I absolutely have nothing against
Shin Se-kyung but she’s not exactly my favourite actress neither. To be frank
the only drama of her I saw was Tree With
Deep Roots and if I liked the drama that was because of Han Suk-kyu not because Shin Se-kyung! It’s
harsh, I concede it, but you can fake those kind of feelings. None of her following
projects (Fashion King, When A Man Falls In Love and Blade Man) caught my interest. (Ok maybe
I’ll check on Blade Man one of these
days). See why I have some concerns about her. But that
said, she looks nice in the trailers and I’m not pig-headed enough no to give
chances. Actually I’d be happy to be taken by surprise by her. Sincerely.
Beside my female lead’s worries, I do have expectations for Sensory Couple. We have the promise of mystery, suspense and fantasy; a hero who can’t smell anything and a heroine who can literally see odors, both connected by a set of murders and a terrible accident is indeed a good start for some suspense and fantasy. Yoochun will play Choi Moo-gak, a young man who will lose his young sister (Kim So-hyun), murdered by the Barcode murder. Traumatized, he will stop eating for days and will end up in the coma. He will wake up, few days later, unable to smell or taste anything. On top of that, he won’t no longer feel any pain. Determinate to find the truth behind his sister’s death, he’ll become a cop. Shin Se-kyung will portrait Oh Cho-Rim, a lively girl who has no memory after she woke up of a 6 months coma. She doesn’t remember having lost her parents murdered by the same Barcode murder. Unlike Moo-gak, Cho-Rim will wake up with the strange ability to see smells. Two leads totally opposed, with both curious abilities connected by tragic events and therefore obliged to revolve around each other’s world? Count on me to check that. There’s room for thriller but also fun, light and even fluffy moments. I want all these ingredients perfectly (perfectly really perfectly) mixed drama.

Level Of Excitement: 7.5/10 (I swear I can smell something good coming my way) Schedule: 01 April on SBS.
The Lover
I like it when you have people living under the same roof and cameras to film each and every one of their movements. No I am not a stalker (well it depends on which side you stand), it’s just that that kind of schema opens to so many possibilities and hijinks that it can only be fun. And talking about fun, I feel like The Lover, the next Mnet drama has the good potential. We will have different couples (and therefore different ways of functioning) living in the same building. The first pair will be portrayed by Oh Jung-se (the lovable samchun in Plus Nine Boys) and Ryu Hyun-kyung (Tasty Life). Both in their thirties, they’ve reached the reasonable age to get married but instead of getting married, they decided to just live together. Interesting. I can only imagine the pressure coming from both sides’ families.
The second couple, played by Choi Yeo-jin (Valide Love) and Jung Joo-young (Today’s Love) is twelve years apart in age. She’s stingy, he’s living off her, she acts like an ahjumma (a sexy one), he’s only carrying his guitar but doesn’t really know how to play it. Talk about being totally different! But that’s also where the fun is. They fight like cats and make up as quickly. Ha Eun-seol (Yoona’s Street) and rookie Park Jong-hwan will play a 20-something couple who just moved in together. She’s the type of girl who can’t stand not to look completely feminine and perfect in front of her man. It’s going to be a bit complicate to be perfect 24/7.
The last pair will be a bromance. For financial reasons, a loner, plays by Lee Jae-Joon (Dating Agency Cyrano) is forced to get a roommate. But living with someone doesn’t mean talking to ach other or getting close. Therefore he will look for a foreigner who doesn’t speak well Korean. Aaah good strategy! Idol Takuya will play that foreigner, a young Japanese on a trip around the world. But the latter isn’t exactly ready to leave his new roommate wasting his young years staying home. He will then slowly force him to come out of his shell. Can’t wait to see that (I can’t really. A lot of cuteness for the bromance, please.) Out of the four couples, the last one is probably my ultimate favourite but I would be interesting to see how all the couples will be portrayed.
The Lover will be a 12 episodes drama that
will air once a week (every Thursday). There’s a lot of possibilities with that
kind of set-up and the drama (if well done) can be a human and realistic
portrait of today’s people and couples. Let’s hope for some fun and good
interaction in the mix.
Level Of
Excitement: 8/10 (Did I already ask for a lot of cuteness? Yes I think so)
Schedule: 02 April on Mnet.

Falling For Innocence
Has someone seriously thought about changing this drama’s genre along the way? For example when Kim So-Yeon (I Need Romance 3), Jung Kyung-ho (Endless Love) and Yoo Hyun-min (Discovery Of Romance) have been confirmed in their roles? Has this eventuality ever crossed anyone’s mind? Watching the three of them just make me want to scream: a rom-com please!! Knowing that Jung Kyung-ho and Yoo Hyun-min, two real-life friends, will have to fight for the same girl, completely ruins my mind. I swear I hate that. I can’t think straight at the idea and now I’m not certain if either or not I’m anticipating the reunion between the two friends, if I’m happy to have three solid actors that will deliver something strong or if I’m just sad because we’re dealing with a melo. Aarrrhhg can’t think straight, told you.
Falling For Innocence will see Kang Min-ho (Jung Kyung-ho), after a heart transplant, changing completely from a cold corporate headhunter to a desperate lover, thanks to his new heart that came with a sort of ‘registered memory’. His heart will wildly beat for Kim Soon-jung (Kim So-Yeon) only. She’s an executive secretary, capable and professional. However things will get a little bit complicate because Soon-jung’s childhood’s friend, Han Joon-hee (Yoo Hyun-min) won’t stay quietly seated while someone is stealing the only girl he ever loves.
If you ask me straight, the plot isn’t the kind that I cheer up for the most. But the cast gets me thrilled. And because of that, somehow I’m quite enthusiastic about Falling For Innocence. I’m also enthusiastic about the posters! They’re gorgeous. They look a little less melo and little more comic than I would expected. Finger crossed then the ton of the drama will be more rom-com and less tearjerker. Chances are high that I will probably suffer from a second lead syndrome because…you know Kyung-ho and Hyun-min are real-life friends and...aarrrrrgh.
Obviously I still can’t think straight and I’m not able to provide a logic explanation. I’d rather stop here and wait for the drama’s premiere. My senses will probably be back by then.
Level Of Excitement: 7/10 (The besties are in the place)
Schedule: 03
April on JTCB.
It’s time to go back to table guys! Time for the second season of the last year delicious drama Let’s Eat. I enjoyed the first season enough to be quite excited about this sequel. I won’t hide it: the fact that the original cast isn’t back bothered a bit in the first place. All right that didn’t excited at all! But I remembered how much I enjoyed watching (and drooling at) the first season. I gave up on my wrath and decided to just be excited about the season two.
Gu Dae-young (Yoon Doo-joon) is the only original piece of the previous season. Yes that means he broke up with his girlfriend Lee Soo-kyung (Lee Soo-kyung) and that also means that I (= we) would have to start the drama with that sad news. But I’m quite sure the drama will manage to make me quickly forget about that matter. So in this second season Gu Dae-young moves to another neighbourhood. He will be reunited with his classmate, Baek Soo-ji, played by Seo Hyun-ji (The Three Musketeers). She’s a single lady who lives alone for ten years. She has a deep crush on her neighbour, Lee Sang-woo, played by Kwon Yul (What’s Up) who lives and eat simply. While she will totally act aego with her neighbour she will have an antagonistic relationship with Gu Dae-young. That promises funny fights food-turned fights!
Lee Yu-bi (Pinocchio) is rumoured to play in Who are you: School 2015. Some time later, it’s Kang Min-kyung’s (The Heirs) turn to be rumoured. (I’m overjoyed at that precise moment). Few days later both declined the roles. (*jaded face*). Kim So-hyun (Reset) is then courted to play the lead. The day after, the male lead is proposed to Nam Joo-hyuk (Surplus Princess). It seems like a done deal as Kim So-hyun confirms. But Nam Joo-hyuk prolong the suspens. It would have been too easy anyway. Thank God he had mercy on us and confirmed his participation to the drama not long ago. In the meantime Yook Sung-jae (Plus Nine Boys) has been offered another lead role. He favorably considered the role (few hours maybe) before officially confirming! Gosh it was long, exhausting and crazy but it's done. (Fingers crossed nothing more would happen!) Honestly half of my excitement is gone with these crazy casting’s twists. That said, I’m still waiting for this new series of the School’s franchise to air. I’ve really loved School 2013, it meant a lot to me and I want Who are you: School 2015 to mean as much.
Who Are You-School 2015 will be about twins, Lee Eun-Bi and Lee Eun-Byeol, and how their fates and respective lives will change. One of the twins is the IT girl at a Gangnam high school but then suddenly goes missing. She will return with no memories at all. The other twin will be transferred at that same Gangnam school and will see her life changing completely. What happened to the missing girl, how her twin’s destiny will changed in a result of that missing? Questions that are surely intriguing. Nam Joo-hyuk, in his first lead role, will play the most popular boy at that high school. There will certainly be more than his looks considering how realistic School’s franchise has been at describing the dark truth of high schoolers.s. As I said, I loved the previous series so I’m definitely board for Who Are You-School 2015. I’m sure my expectations won’t be disappointed! Fingers crossed.
Level Of Excitement: 7.5/10 (Put your backpacks on, we're going to school)
Schedule: 27 April on KBS.
In case you wouldn’t know yet here’s the synopsis: Tak Ye Ji (Gong Hyo-jin), a veteran PD, was once innocent but after ten years in the industry and having been alienated, she’s haughty, full of herself, prideful and say bluntly what’s on her mind. No matter who’s in front of her! Aaah she’s gonna kick some asses. On the other side Ra Jun Mo (Chae Tae-hyun), who’s also a veteran PD, despite having a long experience, has no proper TV show to his name. Baek Sung-chan (Kim Soo-hyun) will play the fresh rookie in Ra Jun Mo’s department. He gave up law school to enter the industry out of love. I’m curious to see the personification of this love. IU is the last name of the foursome. She will play, Cindy, a singer who started as a trainee at the age of 13. Ten years later, thanks to people who stabbed her in the back, she became a cold princess with a poker face.
The premise, the cast and the screenwriter talk all sweetly to me. This drama is awaited and could be something big (the same success as You From Another Star? Hope for them.) In any case, Producer has the good elements in place to be great, let’s see how that combination will work.
Level Of
Excitement: 9.5/10 (Are we there yet? No? Not yet? And now?) Schedule: 08 May on KBS2.
Yoo Jin-gu, my cute pie (it’s quite relative because I know I’m sharing him with a lot of noona’s out there), is final the lead in a drama! Give me a minute, I have to do my dance of joy. Ok done.
Orange Marmalade, the adaptation of the webtoon of the same name, will be out vampires. There’s a lot of vampires lately yes, but who care when you have Yoo Jin-gu as the lead? Seolhyun from AOA (Gangnam Blues) and Lee Jong-hyun from CN Blue (Gentleman’s Dignity) are also part of the casting along with Song Jong-ho (Answer Me 1997). Here I come again with my concerns. I’ve never been a big fan of Song Jong-ho. It’s actually in big part due to the fact that I never loved any of the characters he played in the dramas I’ve watched.
The calculation is simple and quickly done as I’ve only watched two of his dramas: The Princess’ Man and Answer Me 1997. He was way too coward in the first one and made me pull out my hair in the second one. After that I wasn’t precisely prone to try any of his other projects. Plus I don’t find his acting particularly exceptional. Buuuuuuut I’m not stubborn, so I’m looking forward to his role in the drama. Orange Marmalade, described as a ‘sentimental fantasy romance’, will see Jung Jae-min (Yeo Jin-gu), a perfect boy next door high schooler, falling madly in love with Baek Ma-ri, a vampire (played by Seolhyun). Nice that the girl will be the vampire this time around. It’s still vampires but at least this is something different.
Their pure love and the coexistence between
humans and vampires will be the keystone of the drama. Han Shi-hoo (Lee
Jong-hyun) will fight for Baek Ma-ri’s love. Song Jong-ho will play Han
Yoon-Jae, a kind and warm vampire and teacher who hides his true identity to
the world. A kind and warm vampire? Unless something goes wrong, I should like
his character this time (but you never know. Anything can happen, like him
going against the screenwriter for example and deciding to suddenly become a
thirsty vampire ready to drink everyone’s blood. You really never know.) Let’s
find out all that when the drama will air!
Byun Yo-han. That’s one reason. A romantic comedy. That’s second reason. Ex-Girlfriend Club is scheduled in May and if I work hard and get myself super busy April should pass like a day. It should definitely works if I believe in it firmly! Alright, never mind I will find another to make it there alive.
I discovered Byun Yo-han in Misaeng probably like most of us. He played in many indie films before but it’s his role of Han Suk-Yool in Misaeng that acknowledged him and made him known to the public. Only one first role and now he’ll be the lead in this upcoming drama. That’s what you call a real recognition! And it’s well deserve if you ask me. He cracked me up in Misaeng but not only. He was touching, soft, human and somehow naïve. He has that charisma and natural warm presence that make you comfortable and care for him. You can only fall for him, I swear.
Let’s Eat 2
It’s time to go back to table guys! Time for the second season of the last year delicious drama Let’s Eat. I enjoyed the first season enough to be quite excited about this sequel. I won’t hide it: the fact that the original cast isn’t back bothered a bit in the first place. All right that didn’t excited at all! I
hope there will be that a touch of mystery like in the first season. But I,
honestly, haven’t any doubts about the team in place. My hopes are high and I
rather not be disappointed (no this isn’t a threat. Not yet). The PD and
screenwriter behind the first season are back together and promised tons of
food. I’m ready to eat guys. I’m actually ready since the season one ended so
bring it on! Dinner is served and you better eat it hot!
Schedule: 06 April on TVn.
Who Are You-School 2015
Lee Yu-bi (Pinocchio) is rumoured to play in Who are you: School 2015. Some time later, it’s Kang Min-kyung’s (The Heirs) turn to be rumoured. (I’m overjoyed at that precise moment). I’ve really loved School 2013, it meant a lot to me and I want Who are you: School 2015 to mean as much.
I like Kim So-hyun enough not to be totally
bothered about Lee Yu-bi being out. The thing is on one hand we had Lee Jong-Suk and Kim Woo-bin in School 2013
who both look so…tall and so adult (yeah I don’t know how else to formulate it)
and on the other hand Kim So-hyun still looks so fragile and young (she’s 15).
It’s only a matter of time before I get used to that, I know, but for the
moment it’s still a bit strange for me. But they can’t just go and cast
classmates that will look like five or six years older than her though. That
wouldn’t be aesthetically coherent!
Who Are You-School 2015 will be about twins, Lee Eun-Bi and Lee Eun-Byeol, and how their fates and respective lives will change. One of the twins is the IT girl at a Gangnam high school but then suddenly goes missing. She will return with no memories at all. Producer
I’ve already expressed how excited I am for Producer and how I can’t barely wait to see what this anticipating
drama will look like. It could be big! Alright it’s not that the drama couldn’t
be a mess ‘cause it could totally be a mess. But at least it would be a
beautifully casted mess. Kim Soo-hyun (You From Another Star), Chae Tae-hyun (Jeon Woo-chi), Gong Hyo-jin (It’s Okay, It’s Love) and IU (You’re
the Best Lee Soon-Shin) will form the main foursome of this drama that will
revolve around television world. That kind of subject is an open highway to
meta jokes, cameos and special appearances. More than the cast (no so much
though), what’s really play like a magnet on me is the drama’s universe. There’s
nothing new here I know but the writer can definitely have another and (funny) approach.
Give us something fresh to eat writer!
Alright my
talk about beautiful mess and everything was all a lie: a mess is still a mess,
no matter how beautiful it is. So drama, don’t be a mess, be good, be fun,
entertaining and epic!
Orange Marmalade
Yoo Jin-gu, my cute pie (it’s quite relative because I know I’m sharing him with a lot of noona’s out there), is final the lead in a drama! Give me a minute, I have to do my dance of joy. Ok done.

Ex-Girlfriend Club
Byun Yo-han. That’s one reason. A romantic comedy. That’s second reason. Ex-Girlfriend Club is scheduled in May and if I work hard and get myself super busy April should pass like a day. It should definitely works if I believe in it firmly! Alright, never mind I will find another to make it there alive.

He was touching, soft, human and somehow naïve. He has that charisma and natural warm presence that make you comfortable and care for him. You can only fall for him, I swear.
His comic
and fun side will be highlighted in Ex-Girlfriend
Club (at least I hope). He’ll play Bang Myeong-soo, a webtoon artist who
make friends wherever he goes. Philanthropist, well-manner, he’s crazily
unfortunate in love. The club in the title referees to his exes that will come
back in his life after his webtoon about all of them will be a success. Not the
best ideas ever. Song Ji-hyo (Emergency Couple) has been cast as Kim
Soo-jin. She’s a producer who’ll be in charge of the adaptation of the successful
webtoon into a movie. She’ll naturally freak out when she’ll realize that she’s
one of the exes described! No joke.
Lee Yoo-ji (Dr. Frost) will play Jang Hwa-young, another ex. She’s actually clumsy despite her image of the successful girl, working in a investment firm who always gets what she wants. Clothes don’t make the man. Haha! The two others exes will be portrayed by Jang Ji-eun (Tree With Deep Roots) and Hwa-young (Today’s love) who will respectively play Na Ji-A and Ra-Ra. The first one is Bang Myeong-soo’s first love noona. She married a wealthy man but ended divorcing him. The second one is a dumb third-rate actress who’s still waiting for the role that will be her breakthrough. I know Lee Yoo-ji isn’t the female lead here and that she won’t end up with Byun Yo-han (who knows? Yeah one can dream) but I like her a lot. I went so excited when her name got attached to the drama. She’s talented and gorgeous and I really do hope she’ll have many, many time screen. I’m impatient to see the crazy and probably silly moments and twists (there must be some with that kind of nuts premise). Good luck Byun Yo-han will all these women that will fall on you like tornado. I’ll be your shelter if you need one! No hidden agenda here (yeah sure, I’m ready to crush anyone that would come between him and I)…

Warm and Cozy
The casting of this drama has really been
rollercoasters! It almost lead me to my tomb (or is it School 2015 and its constant cast’s changes that seriously walked
on my nerves at some point? Anyway) I’m officially sold (not that is wasn’t the
cast before) and freaking excited! as the two leads have been finally confirmed
(don’t you dare make a last minute twist, you dramas gods or anyone out there).
Yoo Yeon Seok (Answer Me 1994) and Kang
So-ra (Misaeng) will be the lead
couple of the next rom-com from the Hong
sisters, Warm and Cozy. As soon as I’d have calmed my heart I will
keep on. Seriously I’m more than pleased to have those two secured. I was so
depressed after Kim Woo-bin declined
the role. I remember having scratched my head trying to found out who could fit
in and be a perfect match for Kang So-ra (I’ve always counted on the fact that
she was on board from the beginning. It was less depressing having a potential Kang So-ra than no one at
all!) As I couldn’t come with a decent name, I was just there waiting. But
suddenly Yoo Yeon-seok confirmed and my day got just better!
Every time I think about him I think about my
super, strong, persistent and undeniable second lead syndrome of Answer Me 1994.I mean you can’t portrait
Chil Bongi as the nicest, sweetest (and incidentally hot) guy in the whole
country and then not giving him the girl! It’s beyond logic. My heart broke.
Yes my heart broke drama, just so you know. But this time no matter what could
happen (aliens’ invasion, total eclipse of the sun for a whole month, the end
of chaebol and geniuses in dramas), he will get the girl! And that thought only
puts me at peace.
Yoo Yeon-seok
will play Baek Geon-woo, a young man who has everything for him:
gentleman with good looks, good with words and well-liked. He opened a
restaurant on Jeju Island because the woman he loves lives there. A romantic.
I’m melting. Chil Bongi are you there? Kang So-ra will play Le Jung Joo, a girl
who struggles in Seoul. She’s worked hard for five years without any day off
but despite all her efforts, she will end up losing her job, boyfriend and
house. That’s called being really unlucky! She will eventually decide to start
afresh in Jeju Island.
